Nothing makes an event more memorable than great barbecue...
...except great barbecue served out of a
badass food truck.
Before our truck joined the Eastern Beast Barbecue family, it served for over 25 years in the Salvation Army as an Emergency Disaster Services canteen truck. Assigned to what was then the Maryland & West Virginia Division of the Salvation Army, this 1994 Chevy Grumman P30 truck was deployed to numerous disaster sites throughout the East Coast, including service to civilians, military personnel and first-responders at the Pentagon after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. It was later deployed to New Orleans in 2005, getting food, water and supplies to the displaced victims of Hurricane Katrina.
After its service period was complete, the truck was decommissioned and sold at auction before making the 380 mile drive up to its new home in Northeast Pennsylvania, where the next chapter of its service life would begin.
Once the truck was serviced at local truck and RV shops, the work of reviving the exterior began. The faded Salvation Army signage was carefully removed, and the original paint was painstakingly restored before its new Eastern Beast Barbecue branding was applied.
Revived and retooled, the truck received its green-light for food service by the PA Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Bureau. Since then, this truck has been on a new deployment -- bringing great barbecue to the good people of Northeast Pennsylvania!
